Rare repeating Carriage Clock in Silver -1924

Here we have a rather interesting clock made by the Gold & Silversmiths of Regent Street, London with Date letter ‘i’ for 1924, exactly 100 years old! The clock is unusual in that the size is ‘giant’, or certainly extra large. Most similar clocks in silver were normally a quarter of the size and non-striking. This fine example has the classic ‘C’ scroll handle and rectangular case with an ‘off white’ enamel dial showing Arabic numerals and a fine pair of original blued steel hands. The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths of Regent Street sold many clocks in this style and were all fantastic quality. A truly rare clock with mellow hourly strike. Sold with outer leather case (distressed) and silver plated key. Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co amalgamated with Garrard & Co in 1952.

L’Epee Miniature Silver Timepiece

Well these don’t turn up very often! A superb and tiny L’epee carriage clock/timepiece with original box , housing , outer box and small booklet with Silver key and unused polishing cloth. The size is difficult to get across in the pictures online but please come and visit us to see it in ‘real life’! Runs for a week on a wind, the outer box is made of wood then French polished black – ebony and signed L’epee. The small booklet explains the history of L’epee and how to use the clock. Height 6.8cms

Asprey Miniature Silver Timepiece

A fine miniature carriage timepiece made and retailed by Asprey of London. The case is solid silver and in near perfect condition, with a gilt interior and an angular ‘deco’ style handle. Hallmarked for Charles & George Asprey for 1901. Sitting on silver bun feet, it stands 9cm high with the handle extended. The dial is in good condition with neat, wide Roman numerals and is signed Asprey, London. Adjusted and wound from the rear. Running for a week on a full wind.

In 1889, the business was renamed C & G.E , despite Charles not retiring until 1891. The last name change of the nineteenth century was in 1900, where the business became known as Asprey & Co. In 1906, Asprey bought out their business competitors, and neighbours, Houghton & Gunn. Sold fully overhauled and with a 24 Month Guarantee.

1920’s Silver Timepiece

A fine, solid silver polished case carriage timepiece with an enamelled dial and fine blued steel hands. Standing on small ‘Bun’ feet.
The week duration movement is wound from a ‘turn key’ inside and has been fully serviced and regulated. The clock case bears the hallmark date letter ‘V’ for 1920 Birmingham. The case has a bright gilt interior. A beautiful object and good investment.

Hardy Bros Silver Timepiece with Case

This is an exceptionally well preserved solid silver timepiece retains its outer leather covered protective travel case. We sell a lot of clocks and have done for over 43 years, yet we have not seen this design before, its very ‘clean’ design and simple geometric pattern are pleasing. It was retailed by Hardy Bros of the prestigious Old Burlington Street in Mayfair, London, we estimate at around 1920-30. Further research of the hallmarks and stamps to be exact though. The case has a small recess for the key (which is original) and leather covered with two hinged doors, silk lined and printed with the retailers name.

Silver William Comyns

A very attractive and quite unusual ‘shield shape’ timepiece in solid silver by the famous silversmith William Comyns with hallmarks and date letter stamp of 1909. The clock stands on four solid, turned feet and has fine lining to the front panel. Not too small, measuring 19cms tall. Wound from the rear behind a wooden door. A clock which looks good almost anywhere you place it ! Interestingly William Comyns was founded in 1730’s and in business from the 1850’s until the 1930’s with the W.C trade/hallmark. Comyns silversmiths is still trading and with a quick search you’ll see the fine contemporary pieces they now produce. Sold fully restored. A beautiful object and good investment.

A fine, solid silver hammered case carriage timepiece with an enamelled dial and fine blued steel hands. Standing on small 'Bun' feet. The week duration movement is wound from a turn key inside the back and has been fully serviced and regulated. The clock case was made by the very respected Silversmiths - William Comyns and bears the hallmarks of the W.C logo and the letter 'K' for 1905. This clock is quite large, unlike many smaller silver timepieces and sits nicely on mantel or shelf. Being larger it makes it easier to read the time!. A beautiful object and good investment. Silver Carriage Timepiece

This is quite unique, we have not seen this design of silver mantel/carriage ‘clock’ before, hints of Art Nouveau and beautifully executed with chased raised polished domes to each side. Standing on small bun feet. It really is a wonderful little clock. The movement is made by Margaine who is known for producing extremely fine carriage clocks and movements and the case has the hallmarks of Walter Raymond, Silversmith working in Wardour Street, Soho. The date stamp of a ‘U’ in a shield which is the year 1895.
