Here we have a rare, late Georgian Longcase clock in a highly figured Mahogany case of good colour and proportion. The 12″ silvered dial is finely engraved with Roman numerals and the makers name. E. Watson of King Street, Cheapside. The clock has the look of a domestic regulator and benefits from an Egyptian inspired Sarcophagus Pediment. The case has line ebony inlays and the trunk has canted sides and an architectual door held with a lock and key. The base is untouched and remains the height it was made, no reductions. 8 day duration and bell striking on the hour. Ideally this clock needs to be viewed in our shop to fully appreciate the slim and classic Regency look of this clock which could work in almost any interior.

Elegant Regency Longcase by Thomas Field of Bath

An extremely fine Regency period, longcase clock made in Bath by Thomas Field, circa 1810.
This clock features a very elegant ‘flame’ Mahogany case with a superb patina. The case and hood are canted & fluted with brass reeding. The round dial is silvered and features a calendar aperture above the ‘6’ and seconds hand within the Roman numerals. The clock strikes the hours and when wound will run for 8 days. Perfectly proportioned and would work well in most interiors either traditional or modern. You really don’t see many as good as this anymore!

Holmden, London – Exceptional Bracket Clock with Bracket & History

A very fine and small Regency bracket clock, sold with extensive documents and letters of correspondence detailing its provenance. According to a declaration signed by the son of the postmaster of Shurdington, this fine clock was used to time in and out the Mail Coaches arriving at St Martin’s Le Grand Circa 1830, which was in many ways the worlds first Post Office, functioning as London’s main sorting office and public post office. The small mahogany case is brass strung and inlaid with delicate floral tracery to the front panels as well as the chamfered top, which is surmounted by a decorative brass pineapple. The sides of this clock are filled with brass fishscale frets below ring carrying handles, and it sits on small, elegant, brass bun feet. The 6 inch enamel dial is in excellent condition, with roman numerals and double minutes circle, as well as the maker’s name – “Holmden, London” – this would be John George Holmden of 18 St. James’ Walk, also the foremost movement maker for the famous maker, Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy. The movement is of high quality and substantial. It features a bell pull repeat, sounding the most recent hours. This clock is also sold with a complimentary wall bracket, similarly inlaid with brass, as well a file of all related documents. A very rare clock indeed!

JN Jones 8 Inch Wall Clock

A particularly attractive 8 inch wall clock with ‘chisel base’ in mahogany, with a nicely coloured flame veneer and good quality enamel dial, signed JN Jones, 338 Strand. JN Jones is recorded as maker and retailer of clocks and watches from 1863-1869, however there are watches signed and hallmarked from 1851 and long after. This good and quite rare wall timepiece was likely made circa 1880. With original single fusee movement fully cleaned and restored, and case in such excellent condition, this is an investment quality clock.
