A very elegant French mantel clock in the classic Boulle style. The red tortoiseshell case is inlaid with fine Boulle work in great condition, with beautifully detailed cast brass foliage mounts to the edges of the case as well as decorative splayed feet, topped by an attractive floral cast brass finial. The typical sunburst pendulum is visible through the glass aperature to the front face, below an ornate gilt brass dial with enamelled number cartouches, showing blue Roman numerals, and a delicate pair of hands. Inside, the 8 day movement striking the hour and half hour on a bell, wound from the front. Overall a very attractive clock. Made circa 1890 by Japy Frères of Besancon, France.

A remarkably small bracket clock by Webster of Queen Victoria Street, London. The ebonised dome-top case is finely crafted and adorned with beautiful gilt brass mounts to the front corners, elegant cast finial to the top, and attractive decoration bordering the plinth, sitting on cast brass bracket feet. Ornamental brass plates with a lovely peacock blue silk backing to the sound frets at the sides, and a nice design to the rear door, similarly fashioned with blue silk, as well as matching panels to the top. The dial plate is brass with a fine silvered chapter ring and hand-matted dial centre, signed "Webster, 5 Queen Victoria St. London N.17733", surrounded by floral gilt brass decorations with silvered strike-silent function to the arch, meaning the strike can be turned off at night! The 8-day twin fusee movement is in fully restored and in great condition, striking the hour and half hour on a mellow gong, complete with the original numbered winding key, which is particularly rare. William Webster founded the company in 1711 and ownership was passed down from father to son over the next two centuries, eventually to Richard Webster III, who moved the business to the new premises at 5 Queen Victoria Street in 1876. After the death of her husband in 1861, Queen Victoria famously wore black for the remainder of her life, and it became a very fashionable colour at the time, with many clocks made in this ebonised style. This clock would've been manufactured and retailed circa 1880, towards the end of the Victorian era. Dimensions listed are to the top of the finial.

A fine and small striking wall clock by J.W.Benson of Ludgate Street, London, styled as a wall/bracket clock. The Red Walnut case is of good colour, hung from the top, with a faux bracket and decorative floral carvings to the trunk, as well as stylish twin side panels and locking bottom door. The clock is nicely balanced with a wide surround and 8" cream enamel dial, brass bezel and convex glass cover.
A very fine and small Regency bracket clock, sold with extensive documents and letters of correspondence detailing its provenance. According to a declaration signed by the son of the postmaster of Shurdington, this fine clock was used to time in and out the Mail Coaches arriving at St Martin's Le Grand Circa 1830, which was in many ways the worlds first Post Office, functioning as London's main sorting office and public post office. The small mahogany case is brass strung and inlaid with delicate floral tracery to the front panels as well as the chamfered top, which is surmounted by a decorative brass pineapple. The sides of this clock are filled with brass fishscale frets below ring carrying handles, and it sits on small, elegant, brass bun feet. The 6 inch enamel dial is in excellent condition, with roman numerals and double minutes circle, as well as the maker's name - "Holmden, London" - this would be John George Holmden of 18 St. James' Walk, also the foremost movement maker for the famous maker, Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy. The movement is of high quality and substantial. It features a bell pull repeat, sounding the most recent hours. This clock is also sold with a complimentary wall bracket, similarly inlaid with brass, as well a file of all related documents. A very rare clock indeed!

A fine bracket clock, slightly smaller than most at only 31cm tall. The case is particularly attractive, made from Rosewood with a gadrooned top and gadrooned fans to the door, as well as turned Rosewood bun feet and nice Rosewood finial to top. The front and back doors are lockable and come complete with keys. All four sides are glazed and the front and sides are bordered by brass sightrings, with the front glass a very nice ornate arch shape, complementing the silvered dial, with Roman numerals, original hands, and maker's name to the bottom. The dial and movement are signed Alexander Purvis of North Audley Street, London, who is recorded working there from 1828 until at least 1851, at which point he took on a partner, becoming Purvis & Bishop, and the company continuted trading under this name well into the 20th century. This clock would've been made and retailed somewhere between 1828 and 1837, likely during the reign of William IV, before the Victorian era.
