Zenith Oak Wall Clock

An excellent ‘Arts & Crafts’ wall clock by Zenith and a twist on the traditional dial clock. This timepiece was made by Zenith and features a superb quality Swiss, 18 day movement wound through the centre and very domed solid Oak dial. The 12″ dial is one piece and is in great condition with carved bezel, freshly polished, with chromed numerals and hands, chromed dots to mark the minutes and diamonds at the hours. This would have been made and sold some time between 1950 and 1960.

Henri Jacot Repeat Carriage Clock

A very good example of a classic Henri Jacot carriage clock with push repeat. To the underside of the baseplate is stamped the serial number 8861, dating it to around 1890. The dial is in perfect condition with no cracks or blemishes, and the case has a beautiful glowing finish, having only just been re-gilded after coming into our shop. The glass is in excellent condition, with the exception of one tiny chip to the rear door glass next to the handle. The Jacot movement has been fully serviced and runs brilliantly, striking on a gong the hours and half hours, with the push repeat button to chime the most recent hour. A fine clock.

Oval Engraved Carriage Clock With Stand

A truly stunning oval clock on a base/stand with impressive lion paw feet. The engraved case is in superb condition with a fine gilt finish, and the original glass near perfect. The clock is not attached to the base and can be lifted seperately using the carry handle, also engraved and delicately shaped. The movement has been fully overhauled and runs perfectly, with alarm function and push repeat button to the top, to strike the last hour. Although unsigned it is numbered and probably from Richard & Co., circa 1880-1890. It is worth noting that oval carriage clocks are not rare, but finding one with a stand such as this does make it quite unique and enhances the clock.

Fine Mantel Clock by Henry Marc

An attractive French mantel clock in the ‘Pendule portative’ style with a decorative carrying handle. The glass is removed upwards to wind the clock and set the time via the tiny ebony handle. The dial is vitreous enamel showing the makers name and Roman numerals, above the 12 there is a small Brocot dial for adjustment. The clock is of 8 day duration and has a bell strike for the hour and the half hour. The clock can also be run in silent mode by just winding the going side. The case is Rosewood with boxwood inlays of geometric style. A glass aperture to the top and one to each side in a diamond shape. The rear door opens to reveal a fully overhauled mechanism. The clock was made and retailed by Henry Marc, who produced superb clocks throughout the mid 19th Century.

Engraved ‘Four Glass’ Small Mantel Clock

A superb French ‘regulator’ mantel clock of the late 19th century. On display within the four very thick bevelled ‘white’ glass panels is a two piece enamel dial in superb condition, with small Roman numerals on the outer dial, as well as the central visible Brocot escapement, numbered ‘7398’, to the reverse of the dial. The recently overhauled 8-day French movement, striking the hour and half hour on a bell, and the sealed mercury compensating pendulum suspended below. Sitting on a plinth base with bracket feet, the attractive floral engraved case has been re-gilded. Sold with a 24 month guarantee.

Jaeger LeCoultre 1950s Atmos Clock

A fine example of the classic ‘Atmos Clock’ by Jaeger LeCoultre in a gloss gilt case with rare black dial. Invented in 1928 by Jean-Léon Reutter, the ‘Atmos’ clock was designed to run almost perpetually, driven by a mainspring which is wound by changes in temperature and atmospheric pressure. In 1935, Jaeger LeCoultre took over production of the Atmos clock, developing a second, more reliable design – Atmos II. Contained in an airtight chamber, a liquid and gaseous ethyl chloride expands and contracts with changes in temperature, compressing and releasing a spring, which in turn slowly winds the mainspring. A 1 degree change in temperature is enough to run an Atmos clock for 4 days! The timekeeping is controlled by a torsion pendulum, suspended on a thin wire and ‘twisted’ one direction and then the other with power from the mainspring, moving much slower than a typical pendulum clock, and consuming far less energy. Being self powered, the clock can run completely independently, requiring virtually no human intervention, besides the occasional servicing or timekeeping adjustment. Non-striking, this design also means that the movement runs silently, no ticking! This clock would be an Atmos III, the movement stamped with serial number 48430, meaning it would’ve been manufactured somewhere between 1950 and 1959, most likely around 1954. The case is gloss gilt brass, in two parts, the removable top cover, with all glass panels in excellent condition, sitting securely on the stylish brass base. The base is supported by three hidden feet, which can be adjusted from within the case, centering the bubble of the spirit level built into the base plate to ensure perfect balance, and efficiency of the movement. Within the glass panels can be seen the black chapter ring, with Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12, and faceted gilt batons between, as well as the fine Atmos movement, all in brilliant condition, with the suspended pendulum turning slowly below. To secure the pendulum during transport, there is a lever underneath the base, which, at the very end of a pendulum turn, just before it begins to spin the other way, can be moved all the way to the right to secure it in place, making it possible to move the clock without damaging the wire upon which the pendulum hangs. This clock has been recently overhauled and is sold with a 24 month gurantee.

Rare repeating Carriage Clock in Silver -1924

Here we have a rather interesting clock made by the Gold & Silversmiths of Regent Street, London with Date letter ‘i’ for 1924, exactly 100 years old! The clock is unusual in that the size is ‘giant’, or certainly extra large. Most similar clocks in silver were normally a quarter of the size and non-striking. This fine example has the classic ‘C’ scroll handle and rectangular case with an ‘off white’ enamel dial showing Arabic numerals and a fine pair of original blued steel hands. The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths of Regent Street sold many clocks in this style and were all fantastic quality. A truly rare clock with mellow hourly strike. Sold with outer leather case (distressed) and silver plated key. Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co amalgamated with Garrard & Co in 1952.

8 Inch L.N.E.R – Railway Clock

A good 8inch dial, small Oak Railway clock made by Reid & Co of Newcastle. The clock is numbered 6928 and from the L.N.E.R records it shows that this was in use during the late Victorian period through the Edwardian period at the Oil & Gas works in the Center of York. The maker Reid & Co of Newcastle would have made this circa 1880-90 for the L.N.E.R Railways. The case colour is ‘Honey’ Oak and the movement is high quality and substantial 8 day single fusee with heavy ‘bob’ pendulum. The Bezel is cast brass, unlike the later cheaper ‘spun’ bezels. ‘Petite Sonnerie’ Carriage Clock.

A smaller size gilt cased carraige clock in the ‘Gorge’ style, surrounded by thick bevelled ‘white’ glass. An attractive masked dial, showing Roman numerals and alarm aperature. The main dial is in great condition and shows the inner line within the Roman numerals, typical of Henri Jacot. This clock benefits from having quarter striking or what is known as a petite sonnerie, whereby the clock strikes the quarters automatically, and if the repeat button is pressed, will strike the full grande sonnerie (the hours and quarters). This clock has just undergone a full restoration and has all original parts, and original escapement. Sold with a 24 month guarantee.

Henry Capt, mignonette ‘Grande Sonnerie’ Carriage Clock.

A fine and perfectly proportioned small ‘Grande Sonnerie’ carriage clock with alarm, strike and push repeat. What makes this one quite interesting is the size. This is a very small example by Henry Capt of Geneva. The gorge case is wonderful and has an outer protective leather covered travel case. The dial is perfect and painted with Roman numerals and outer Arabics for the minutes, which is always attractive. The backplate is engraved with the number 95. Henry Capt was an exceptional maker and his father who bears the same name. Father and son were based in Geneva, Switzerland from the early 1840’s and produced many exceptional and highly decorative carriage clocks for the discerning customer.
